Mila Guy
Imagine staring at a painting with an open nature as the setting, birds hovering sincerely across sunset pink skies, and a mountain sneaking its tip in the corner of the painting symbolizing the calm and undisturbed peace and essence of a living being. Now put this painting next to the name and face of Mila Guy and you almost say that this represents her being reincarnated as nature. Loveable, gentle and life-living freelancing actress with a stage performance that can tire out even the most energetic of young souls, Mila Guy is busier than ever before.

24-Year old Mila is a privileged and graceful woman who glided through life with mostly the style of a normal young girl who her fortunate to be blessed with supporting parents, family, and friends during her life and school-career that she feels grateful about every day of her life. Participating in eisteddfods in primary school laid the foundation for pursuing drama as a subject whilst enrolled at a well-instituted high school in New Zealand. Leading to many on stage productions and first-time audition in Auckland before pursuing her career further in South Africa. But we all know that achieving all of this was not as simple as what this sounds to be. Of course everyone do come across a few struggles and crossroads which is intended to make life more challenging and difficult. Why? Because that is the best way to learn from yourself, to realize what your capabilities and limits are, and also how you can adapt to improving yourself to turn these struggles on their heads and walk off as an accomplished self-hero.

Now, these problems decided to greet Mila in a later stage during her studies, majoring in drama at the University of Pretoria. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, however, she realized that her toughest challenge yet was to start putting her degree and talent to use in the acting and entertainment industry. The entertainment industry is a very difficult industry as most of us would know, with the added struggles of facing rejection, developing unnecessary self-doubt which can lead to decrease in your health and a concerning increase in depression levels and unhappiness. Being declined for any offer no matter in what profession, is a tough feeling to live with at first and to keep it at bay. Of course, people handle rejection in their own way, but no one has ever handled it with a smile from the get-go. As Mila mentioned, it slowly nibbles away on your self-image, nibbling at your courage and determination to start living your life. The trick, however, is using your weapon which you use to lift yourself up and twist it in a way to battle off that negative effect of rejection into a more positive outcome to work further on.
Mila who herself faced a few blows to her personality, dreams and being, found a way to also replace those scars with a smile and can-do attitude. She flipped a switch with the idea of just to go for it and enjoy it as it is already a privilege to be called into for an interview or an audition. She added that when she goes for an audition now, she does it with the mentality of living in the moment and working hard to know her character and script as if the story is about a piece of her own life. Even if the outcome might be a possible rejection or not. With this new mindset, her belief in her faith also increased tremendously. “It has made me a stronger person and my relationship with God is much better because he made me go through tough times to realize who and what I am and what I want”. She also added that this profession is more of a “trust thing” than a “controlling thing” which allows her to be herself and play the field as hard as what her abilities would allow.
As with the other inspiration individuals who Weekly Al interviewed, Mila also agrees that you should dream big but also understand that with these dreams, it can only be realized with hard work, passion and to know that there will be tough times in between. She emphasized on the advice which her dad gave her about worrying all the time. “To worry won’t change anything in the matter. It is there and it will not go away by just sleeping over it. It will still be there the next day. Take it as it comes and deals with it with a clear mind and patience.”
Going strong of following her dream as an actress, Mila also dreams of traveling the world and specifically experience the entertainment industry in America. “I would love to try out the entertainment industry in America, but when it comes to a more lifestyle and good vibe sort of traveling then I would say Netherlands. I just always want to travel. People and cultures are interesting and when you travel, you grow so much as a person.”
So while Mia is still entertained in South Africa, be sure to look out for her newest portrayals in the December movie release “Kersfeesvader”, “Wonderlus” (set to be released March 2018) as well as Hotel 2 that will be able to view on kykNET in October. But in the meantime you can enjoy her talent in the drama series “Erfsondes” on kykNET, Bedfordwives airing already on SABC 3 as well as Keeping Score on SABC 2.
Before I greet you, Mila mentioned that she needs to emphasize on one last piece of advice:
“The world is already cluttered. We need more people who are tolerable towards each other and who will respect each other’s differences and opinions rather than seeing it as a threat. We should view those differences as a way of being unique from others. By doing so I believe love amongst individuals will grow and learn to live peacefully with one another.
There you have it, good people.
Cheers for this week.

"The way you react has been repeated thousands of times, and it has become a routine for you.
You are conditioned to be a certain way. And that is the challenge: to change your normal reactions, to change your routine, to take a risk and make different choices."
